Buddhist Council to Host Free and Public Meditate NYC Event in Long Island City on Saturday September 21, 2019
A Day of Meditation to Cultivate the Mind of Peace and Compassion
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, New York, NY—The Buddhist Council of New York (BCNY), an association of diverse and international Buddhist temples and organizations, will present its annual Meditate NYC event for experienced practitioners and those brand new to meditation. Gathering inspiring speakers and well-known teachers from the New York area, the event will be held at Gantry Plaza State Park (Center Blvd and 49th Ave., Long Island City, Queens, NY 11101) from 2:30-5:30pm on Saturday, September 21, 2019.
Mediate NYC will be a part of the Peace Lanterns Festival, sponsored by HaborLAB, Heiwa Peace Reconciliation Foundation of New York and Buddhist Council of New York, along with its partners the Global Movement for the Culture of Peace, the Interfaith Center of New York, the Interfaith Center of USA, the Newtown Creek Group, the NY de Volunteers, the Origami Therapy Association, the Sikh Cultural Society, the TF Cornerstone, and the World Yoga Community. This excitingevent includes free paddling (3pm-), and drawing lanterns from 2:00pm – 6:00pm, speakers and interfaith peace prayers at 6:15pm, followed by a sunset floating peace lantern launch on the East River starting at 7:30pm – 8:30pm.
The event is taking place on a week dedicated to international peace corresponding with the United Nation’s International Day of Peace. Ever mindful that meditation is a powerful and transformative way to bring peace to the mind, while nurturing a wholesome lifestyle; meditation has now been accepted in scientific circles and practiced for thousands of years in connection with various cultures and religions around the world. Various meditation and dharma teachers representing various Buddhist traditions will participate, including but limited to. Japanese, Chinese, Tibetan and American. All are welcome and participants should bring acushion, portable chair or yoga mat for sitting.

2:00 – 6:00pm Lantern Decorating, Origami, Face Painting, Henna Tattoos, Seedball Making, and African Dance
2:30 – 5:30pm “Meditate NYC” – Public Meditation Day
3:00 – 6:00pm Public Paddling Speakers and Interfaith Prayers for Peace
7:30 – 8:30pm Floating Peace Lanterns
