“Buddhist Council of NY: 30 Years History”
The Buddhist Council of New York is an umbrella group of many different Buddhist organizations and individuals in the New York and greater metropolitan area. Every year, The Buddhist Council of NY organizes the Vesak Buddha’s Birthday celebration in May; Meditate NYC, an introduction to Buddhist meditation from various traditions; and the Buddhist Forum, a dialogue between Buddhist leaders on timely topics. Throughout the year the Council also sponsors and supports other events that foster interfaith dialogue, cooperation, unity and peace.
Currently we are trying to make New York City recognize a Buddhist holiday – Vesak Day (full moon day in May for Buddha’s birthday, enlightenment and pari-nirvana) for both suspending alternate side parking regulation and school holiday.
