Peace in Action: Living the Teachings of the Buddha

Join us for our cherished annual Vesak celebration under the theme “Peace in Action: Living the Teachings of the Buddha.” Vesak is a revered Buddhist holiday that commemorates the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and pari-nirvana. This significant gathering is set for May 18th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at the esteemed Rubin Museum, which, in a bittersweet note, will be closing its doors this fall.

In these critical times, when the world yearns for peace and unity more than ever, our gathering is more than a mere celebration; it’s a beacon of enlightenment, guiding us on how to embody the Buddha’s teachings through acts of harmony, empathy, and compassion within our circles and extending out into the wider world.

Program Highlights:

  • Bathing of the Buddha: A ritual symbolizing purification and renewal, inviting participants to cleanse their minds and spirits.
  • Offering Chants and Prayers: A harmonious blend of voices from the Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana traditions, fostering a sense of communal sanctity and peace.
  • Short Dharma Talks: Insights from diverse traditions, offering perspectives on how to weave the Buddha’s teachings into the fabric of our daily lives for the betterment of all beings.

This event is not only a celebration of Vesak but also a call to action—a reminder that each of us holds the potential to enact change through the teachings of the Buddha. As we gather at the Rubin Museum for one of its final events, let us honor the space by filling it with the spirit of unity and the resolve to make a difference.

Admission is free, but space is limited. We encourage early registration to secure your spot for this memorable day of reflection, learning, and community. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, we were unable to accommodate as many attendees as we would have liked. All available free tickets were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that free registration is now closed, as all tickets have been claimed.

Embrace the opportunity to transform teachings into tangible actions for peace. We look forward to welcoming you to an inspiring afternoon of “Peace in Action: Living the Teachings of the Buddha.
